One of ELGA's key objectives is
to increase awareness and participation of golf for
all ages. National Girls' Development Officer Kirstie
Jennings and her team work tirelessly towards developing
junior golf.
In accordance with the government’s
“Game Plan” strategy for sport, the aim
is to increase participation in sport and physical
activity amongst the general population to create
a greater level of health and make associated health
care savings across all ages. Sport England, the sports
council within England, has set itself an ambitious
goal to get 70% of the population engaging in physical
activity for 30 minutes five times a week by 2020.
There are several ways
in which the government hopes to achieve its targets
in getting the population to be more active. Sport
England has chosen golf to be one of the ten priority
sports to deliver the required levels of participation
in sport and physical activity. This means that golf
within England, in the form of the EGU, ELGA and The
PGA will be working with Sport England to produce
a business plan for golf, to modernise the governance
of the game, to promote golf and to develop the levels
of participation. Funding will be available from Sport
England to implement the business plan.
