Under 15
Henrietta Brockway (Yeovil) wins
the Under 15 English Championship 214 (70/70/74),
having lead the competition from the start, 15 shots
ahead of Gemma Hardie (Forest Pines). Henrietta said
"Having won the Under 13 title last year this
is a fantastic result".
Flight 2
Eleanor Givens (Blackwell Grange)
won the second flight of the Under 15 Championship
236, 2 shots ahead of Georgina Hunt (Willingdon).
Under 13
Kelly Tidy (Manchester) the leading
qualifier beat Raphaela Dyer (Hayling) in the final.
Under
15 championship
Henrietta
Brockway (Yeovil) 144 (70/74), leads the Under 15
championship by 6 shots, ahead of Gemma Hardie (Forest
Pines) 150 (75/75), Hannah Barwood (Knowle) 153 (74/79)
and Georgina Wilkie (Barlaston) 155 (81/74).
Due to the adverse weather forecast
the championship committee decided to alter the format
to stroke play. Players will remain in their flights
and their 1st round qualifying score will be included
in the total. The championship will be 54 holes Strokeplay,
weather permitting.
Henrietta said “The format
change is good for me having had a strong first round,
although I had a match play mindset before I teed
off and had a slow start with two bogeys, having hit
a couple of stray drives”.
Under 13 championship
Due to the adverse weather forecast two rounds
of matchplay were played on Thursday with the flight
1 and flight 2 final to be played on Friday. Kelly
Tidy (Manchester) leading qualifier played Siobham
Pamenter (Chelmsford) and she was 5 up at the 9th,
finishing the match 5&4.
Kelly is to play Katie Thompson
(Corhampton) in the semi-finals, the other semi-final
is between Rebecca Gibbs (Burnham & Berrow) and
Raphaela Dyer (Hayling).
Wednesday 11 August
Under 15 Henrietta Brockway (Yeovil) is the
leading qualifier having shot 70, 2 under par. Henrietta
holds the 2003 English Under 13 title and this is
her first time playing in the Under 15 Championship.
Henrietta’s front nine started
slowly, with a ‘par’ first hole being
played on Monday, when rain suspended play. She resumed
on the second hole today and having caught the top
of a tree with her 3 iron she bogied the second and
finished the front nine 1 over.
The back nine saw 4 birdies and
a third bogie on the 16th, leaving her 2 under at
the end of the round. Henrietta said “I just
got round today, not doing anything very special.
This is a good course, I’m looking forward to
the rest of the week”.
Under 13 Kelly
Tidy (Manchester) the leading qualifier beat Rebecca
McIntyre (Eden) 7&5. Following the damp start
to the week the sun shone as Kelly played her first
match play round, she will now play Siobhan Pamenter
(Chelmsford). Siobhan beat Lauren Oleksik (Wolstanton).
Kelly reached the quarterfinals
last year and was beaten on the 19th. She said “I’m
hoping to improve on last years, I would really love
to win”.
The other quarter finalists
are Katie Thompson (Corhampton), Rebecca Gibbs (Burnham
& Berrow), Lucy Cutler (Warley), Tiffany Hewetson
(East Brighton), Raphaela Dyer (Hayling) and Sian
Evans (Sittingbourne & Milton). Sian’s match
being the last game to conclude having gone to the
19th.
Tuesday 10 August
English Girls’ Under 13 and Under 15 Championships
play suspended due to rain; 10 Aug
Under 15 Championship
round one has been suspended due to rain and play
is due commence 11 August at 8.16am. One round of
stroke play to be played, after which the first 16
will qualify for flight one and the second 16 qualify
for flight 2.
Under 13 first
round scores to count for qualifying, second round
abandoned due to rain. 1st 16 qualify for flight 1
and the remaining 16 qualify for flight 2. Kelly Tidy
(Manchester), 12 years old is the leading qualifier
with a first round score of 76. Kelly will play Rebecca
McIntyre (Eden) in the first round of match play to
take place on the 11 August.
Kelly plays off a 7.3 handicap
and is a member of the England Birdie Squad and the
Lancashire County Girls’ Team, having held the
County Under 12 title 2003. Kelly has played since
the age of five, she first went to the driving range
with her Father and Grandmother, Margaret Tidy. Margaret
said “Kelly is a smashing golfer and we are
all so proud of her”.
