Francesca Robertson wins Abraham Trophy 2005

Berkshire 13-year-old Francesca Robertson played
four shots under her handicap to win the final of
the Abraham Trophy competition for England’s
most improved girl golfers.
The 11-handicapper had a gross 79, net 68, and finished
three shots clear of the field at Henbury in Gloucestershire,
where she now goes on to play in the English Girls’
U13 championship.
All 21 girls in the Abraham Trophy final qualified
on the basis of handicap reduction and Francesca,
who took up golf only two years ago, was playing off
25 as recently as February.
She already plays for Berkshire girls and is ladies’
champion at her other club, Newbury Race Course.
“This is a really good start to the week and
now my aim is to make the cut in the U13 championship,”
said Francesca. “It’s a wonderful course
and the greens really suited my putting.”
The runner-up was Hannah Turland, Tidworth Garrison
81-11-70 and in 3rd place was Celeste Currie (Kibworth)

Competition details;
Open to Girls' of English Nationality holding
a CONGU Handicap who have not reached their 18th Birthday
before the 1st January 2005.
The Competition runs from 1 May 2004 to 30 April
2005
The National Final will be held on Monday 8th August
2005 at HENBURY GOLF CLUB, GLOUCESTERSHIRE.
Entrants must have a CONGU Handicap and the cards
used to obtain a handicap cannot be used for this
Competition.
All girls who receive ELGA Coaching or Vouchers are
expected to send in an entry for this Competition
if eligible for the Girls’, Under 15 or Under
13 Championships.
Area winners and the next 12 players with the best
average nett scores, in relation to the LGU Scratch
Score, and those who tie qualify for the National
Final to be held at Henbury Golf Club, on Monday 8th
August 2005, the practice day for the Under 15 Championship.
For any player competing in the Under 13 Championship
the score returned in the Abraham Trophy Final will
be used as the First Round Qualifying Score for this
event.
All players will have the opportunity to practice
on Sunday 7th August.
Proof of handicap must be produced at the National
Final.
Send in your completed Entry Form stating your 6
best nett scores in relation to the LGU Scratch Score,
(Medal, Stableford, Par.) Between 1st May 2004 and
30th April 2005.
Entries must reach the ELGA office by
17th May 2005.

to fill in below your six best nett scores in relation
to the LGU Scratch Score, including at least 1 away
Score from 1st May 2004 to 30th April 2005 inclusive.

address (listed overleaf) to arrive by 17th May 2005.
For your own records enter your stroke play scores
including at least 1 away score, (medal, stableford,
par) from Qualifying Competitions between 1st May
2004 to 30th April 2005. Advise your Handicap Secretary
the page opposite will need to be completed by her
for return by 17th May 2005.
