Felicity Johnson wins again !!
Taking the Bridget Jackson Bowl title at Handsworth
Golf Club
01 July 2004
Felicity Johnson (Harborne),
a member of the ELGA Elite Under 21 squad, has won
the Bridget Jackson Bowl held at Handsworth Golf Club.
Her first round 7 under par gross 65 (equaling
Trish Johnson’s 1985 course record) and a level
par 72 second round gave Felicity a winning total
of 137.
Four shots behind in 2nd place
was Welsh International Jo Nicolson (Wrexham), with
Curtis Cup player Shelley McKevitt (Reading), the
British Ladies’ Stroke Play Champion, in third
place on 142.
Earlier in the month, Felicity
won the Astor Salver (72 + 66 = 138, 8 under par)
following her 2nd place 2 days earlier in the Critchley
Salver. 2004 is her first year as a full time amateur
golfer and she will be competing in all the major
amateur events. At 17 years of age she is the youngest
member of the England team competing next week at
the European Lady Juniors’ Team Championships
at Royal Cinque Ports, Deal.
She has previously represented England in the Girls’
Home Internationals in 2000 and 2002, and the Girls’
European Team.
Felicity said of her win at Handsworth
“It was great to shoot such a good score around
this course and it’s good to join the notable
list of winners. This has stood me in good stead for
the Europeans”.
Felicity has also been selected,
along with ELGA South West Regional squad member Sian
James (Bristol and Clifton) to attend the Dick Harmon
Golf School in Texas this October. Chosen to accompany
them is the ELGA South West Development Coach Sarah
Claridge, who is a PGA Professional at the Kendleshire
Golf Club. The trio were selected, by Butch Harmon
and his three brothers, following the Red Bull Masterclass
event at the Belfry.
