Kiran Matharu wins the Junior
Female Performer of the Year 13 April 2004
Kiran Matharu (Sand Moor Golf Club)
wins the Junior Female Performer of the Year at the
Leeds Sports Awards. The Yorkshire paper stated; The
Junior female category unveiled a champion in waiting
in Leeds based golfer Kiran Matharu. The 15 year old
topped the English Girls’ Order of Merit in
2003 and at the age of 15 became the youngest ever
player at Yorkshire County first team level. Roger
Green who hosted the ceremony said “What a future
she has”.
Kiran was unable to collect her
award as she was playing for England in France, her
brother Haminder collected the award on her behalf.
Kiran said “This was an unexpected honor and
I’m pleased with the recognition, beating the
other sports women, including two members of the Badminton
England squad and several local top athletes”.
