ELGA Announce 2004 Team Captains

Pat Skelton (Henbury), will captain the European Lady Juniors Team Championships that will be hosted by England at the Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club from 6 – 10 July 2004. Pat has a wealth of experience having captained the European Girls’ Team in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 and the Girls International Team regaining the Stroyan Cup in 2000, which was retained in 2001and 2002.

Angela Caton (Pleasington) will captain the Girls’ European Team at the Championships at Golf National Golf Club Paris from 6 – 10 July 2004. Angela who led the winning Girls’ Home International team last year has also accompanied players to the European Young Masters.

Beverley New (Landsdown) will captain the Home International Team at Royal Porthcawl from September 8 – 10. Beverley who won the English championship at 19, played in the Vagliano and Curtis Cup teams before turning Professional. She regained her amateur status in 2001.

Joy Traffford (Woodhall Spa) takes over as captain of the Girls’ Home International team for the matches at Strathaven Scotland from August 11 – 13. Joy Trafford has been involved with junior golf for many years and is currently Divisional Training Officer for the Midlands.

For the second time Bridget Jackson (Handsworth) will Captain the team that defends the Seniors Home International title when the event is held at Kilkeel Golf Club, Ireland in early October. Bridget has great experience as a player and Captain having represented England at the highest level since 1954. Her junior career included playing for the English Girls v Scotland and as a player and Captain in the first World Team Championship in 1964. She represented England nine times in the Home International Matches between 1955 and 1966 and was non playing Captain in 1973 and 1974.

The team of six will be selected following the Senior Ladies’ Close Amateur Championship at Trevose Golf Club in September. Bridget’s keen involvement with ladies golf has seen her hold many key administrative roles including Chairman of ELGA 1970 –1971, President of ELGA 1993 – 1995 and President of the LGU from 1998 to 2001. She also served 6 years as an International Selector.
