English competitors finish 1-2-3
in Aberdeenshire Classic Women’s event.
17 September 2004
Competitors from England won the
top three women’s prizes in the Aberdeenshire
Classic tournament, played over 72 holes at Murcar,
Cruden Bay, East Aberdeenshire and finally Newmachar
Golf Club earlier this week.
Karen Lobb (Northamptonshire County),
who plays off eight, totalled 125 Stableford points.
Runner-up was Georgina Dunn (Peterborough
Milton), a six-handicapper, with 117pts.
Third was Jacqui Bowden (Boscombe
Ladies), playing off 12, with 110pts.
The men’s event was won by
a local, Hugh Thom of Nigg Bay with 133pt off 12 of
a handicap.
Stephen Williamson, an eight-handicap
member of Thurso Golf Club was just pipped for first
place. He finished second with 131pt.
Keith Duncan (Auchmill), who plays
off six, finished third with 124pt.
Wheatley Golf Club, Doncaster won
the team competition for the Internet for Business
Ltd Trophy. Their representatives were Neil Mallander
(3), Michael Houseman (11) and Roy Henderson (6).
Next year’s Aberdeenshire
Classic will be played from Monday to Thursday, September
12 to 15.
The website – www.aberdeenshiregolfclassic.com
– will be updated soon to allow registration
to the 2004 event and inform on progress and associated
events being organised for the social side of the
tournament,” said organiser John Allan.
“We are anticipating a significant
increase in both visitors and local golfers and are
aiming to encourage golf clubs to enter teams. We
can’t lead the trophy in England, surely?
“We are also very keen to promote the ladies
tournament as we offer equal value prize vouchers
for both the men’s and women’s events.
It was disappointing that we did not have any local
lady golfers. All were visitors from outside Aberdeenshire,
yet we had quite a few men from local clubs.”
