Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme
25 May 2004

The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme is an initiative by the Department of Culture Media and Sport. It aims to encourage and assist good sportsmen and women to continue and improve in their chosen sport while in higher or further education. The scheme covers 44 different sports including golf and is available to UK citizens attending higher or further education institutions in England from September 2004. The scholarship provides services and assistance to the value of £3000 per annum.

The official launch of TASS took place on 13th May at No. 10 Downing Street, hosted by Cherie Blair. Amy Olding, of Surrey, currently studying at Loughborough University was invited to represent golf. In addition to meeting Mrs. Blair, Amy had the opportunity for an extended chat with Mrs. Tessa Jowell, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, the instigator of TASS.

Amy was interviewed during the day by Radio 5 Live and on Radio 1.

Students are invited to submit applications for TASS. The EGU and ELGA will select recipients on golfing ability. Women golfers of 3.9 handicap or lower and men of 1.5 or lower will be considered.
