Katie Thompson wins English Schools Championship

Hampshire 13-year-old, Katie Thompson, is the new
English Schools Association girls’ champion
and will play for their national team in the annual
matches against Scotland and Wales.
Katie, from Corhampton, won her title at Trentham
in Staffordshire where she shot 77, 72 for a one-shot
victory over 14-year-old Hannah Barwood (Knowle) and
Nicole Whitmore 16, (Woburn).
The leading six girls in the championship were selected
for the annual schools’ international against
Scotland at Glasgow Gailes on September 19.
Katie, Hannah and Nicole will be joined by Edwina
Lowrey-Gold from Norfolk; Rachel Connor, Lancashire;
and Gemma Parks, Leicestershire.
Katie and Hannah will also be in the team to play
Wales at Moseley Golf Club on August 31.
Katie, Hannah, Nicole and Rachel are all members
of ELGA squads and part of the Sport England, lottery-funded
World Class training programme.
