Felicity Johnson is BBC Midlands Sportswoman of the Year
10 December 2005
English champion Felicity Johnson has become the BBC Midlands Sportswoman of the Year.
The award recognises her success in winning the national title in only her second season of full-time amateur golf.
Felicity, 18, from Harborne in Warwickshire, said: “This has finished the season off perfectly for me.”
More than 300 guests, including scores of top Midlands sporting personalities watched her receive her award from the former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton at the National Motorcycle Museum at Bickenhall, Solihull . She beat off challengers from the worlds of swimming, athletics and snooker to take the title.
Felicity adds this latest prize to a host of other honours. As well as winning the English championship, she has been a key member of England 's team successes this season. She's the winner of the ELGA girls' order of merit and she's just been named as the Daily Telegraph Woman Golfer of the Year.
But she says: “I think this is actually it for now…. unless anyone springs any more surprises!”
