International Jodi Ewart plans US move

England international Jodi Ewart is planning a move to the world of American college golf next autumn.

The 17-year-old from Catterick in Yorkshire has signed a letter of intent to join the University of New Mexico at the start of the next academic year.

Jodi will take a host of impressive credentials with her. She is the Daily Telegraph girls’ champion and was in England’s winning teams in the 2005 European girls’ team championships, the girls’ International Matches and the Home Internationals.

She is a member of ELGA’s Elite performance U21 squad, which is part of the association’s Sport England, lottery-funded World Class training programme.

When Jodi moves to the US she will join a number of other English players who regularly post impressive results on the college tournament circuit.

Leading the way this season with individual wins are Becky Wood, 21,from Glossop & District in Derbyshire and Sian Reddick, 20, from Sene Valley in Kent.

Becky, a third year student at Kent State University, Ohio, tied for first place in the Mary Fossum Invitational in Michigan (76, 71 and 73). It was her first major individual win and she followed up with another high finish in the Las Vegas Founders Showdown where she tied 7th at two-under par (72, 71, 71).

Sian, the 2004 English strokeplay champion and a student at Baylor University, Texas, tied first in the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, Colorado (73 67 70). Her other results include a share of fifth place in the Kent Youel Invitational, Honolulu (72 74 75).

Meanwhile, Anna Scott of Consett & District, Co Durham, was joint runner-up the Cardinal Cup at Simpsonville, Kentucky. Anna, 19, from Georgia State University, Atlanta, shot 74, 69, 75, three behind the winner. Earlier she tied third in the Pelican Preserve Invitational at Fort Myers, Florida (78, 73, 74), again three shots off first place.
