Sophie reaches semi-finals of Sunningdale Foursomes

England number one Sophie Walker paired up with teenage Walker Cup star Oliver Fisher to reach the semi-finals of the Sunningdale Foursomes.
Walker, ELGA’s Order of Merit title holder, and Fisher were part of England ’s winning team in the 2005 Spirit International Amateur Championship, and they made short work of their early ties at Sunningdale.
Their progress was halted only by the eventual winners, Ladies European Tour player Danielle Masters and Ben Evans. In her amateur days Masters was an England international, Curtis Cup player and holed the winning putt for GB&I in the 2003 Vagliano Trophy. Evans is a member of the England ’s U21 squad.
English girls’ champion Melissa Reid (Chevin) and Faldo Series girls’ champion Kiran Matharu (Cookridge Hall) also had a good run in the tournament, reaching the last 16 before being closed out on the last hole by James Morrison and Chris Roope, who went on to reach the final.
Semi-finals: J Morrison (St George’s Hill) and C Roope (Farnham) beat D Thomas and J Pease ( Braintree ) 2/1. B Evans ( Rye ) and D Masters (Chart Hills) beat S Walker ( Kenwick Park ) and O Fisher ( West Essex ) 2/1. Final: Evans & Masters beat Morrison & Roope 2/1.
